The inspiring book Bare Reality: 100 women, their breasts, their stories, featured on television and talk shows across the world, is being brought to the stage for the first time in Ewell, Surrey.

For two years, Epsom-based photographer Laura Dodsworth photographed and interviewed 100 women about their breasts, bodies and lives. The results were published in an acclaimed book, raising money for Breast Cancer UK. Now their stories are being brought to life as a live performance, adapted and directed by Sally McCormack, head of the Matrix Theatre company, for the MGS04 Epsom & Ewell Arts Festival.

Women aged from 19 to 101 took part in Bare Reality, including: a Buddhist nun, a burlesque dancer, a female vicar, cancer survivors and career women. The show will present women’s experiences about growing up, sexual relationships, breastfeeding, health problems, insecurities, surgery, ageing and more.

“I’m excited to be staging the first theatrical performance of Bare Reality at MGS04 Festival in my home town. It’s completely in keeping with the spirit of Bare Reality that I am collaborating with two brilliant women, Sally McCormack and Susy Puckett. I always felt, from the very beginning, that the stories in Bare Reality would work perfectly on stage – they are moving, surprising, funny and, above all, human. I’m so pleased we are bringing this vision to life and can’t wait to share it.”

Sally McCormack, theatre lead for MGSO4 Festival said:
“Susy Puckett and I are thrilled to be developing and creating a play out of Bare Reality. The book covers such a wide range of ages that the women’s stories are very diverse and enlightening. Putting such personal narratives on stage is always fascinating and poignant for any director. The women in Laura’s book have been so honest and brave, that everyone who comes to see the show can’t fail to be moved by their experiences.”

Bare Reality will premiere on Saturday, 25 June 2016, at Bourne Hall, Ewell, Surrey.
