The death of Davies is sad news for theatre fans. At the forefront of National for many recently he has worked in theatres such as the Donmar Warehouse, Hampstead Theatre and Chichester Festival Theatre. I count myself lucky to have seen some of his productions, including the recent Hapgood and 55 Days at Hampstead, Temple at the Donmar, Juno and the Paycock, Three Winters and The Last of Hausmanns at the National Theatre.
He was due to direct a production of Michael Frayn’s play Wild Honey at Hampstead Theatre in December.
