Theatre Trust has announced its Theatres at Risk list for 2019. The list includes theatres from all over the UK, including iconic theatres like the Winter Gardens in Blackpool
Sadly over half of the buildings on this year’s register are disused and empty buildings are always to be harder to return to use; Dudley Hippodrome is due to turn into a test centre for driverless vehicles and The Coronet in London’s Elephant and Castle, which has been removed from this year’s list, is due for imminent demolition. But it is not impossible, as this year’s Register demonstrates the amazing successes that result in buildings being removed from the list such as Alexandra Palace Theatre and The Cryer which are both now returning to functioning performance spaces. Additionally, this year, significant progress has made at Bradford Odeon, Leith Theatre, Burnley Empire and Century Theatre.
